THE CONVERSION OF KEROSENE TO LPG

I have opinion about “The Conversion of Kerosene to LPG (liquofred petroleum gas).” This topic is very interesting because it influences to most aspect of life in our society.

The government policy about conversion of kerosene to LPG have several reasons. One of them is because the price of fuel in the world market is increasing from time to time. It makes unbalance for national budgeting. Desides that in fact it often happened that some unresponsible person mix kerosene with diesel fuel for industry. So, the kerosene is disapear from the market. As we know, kerosene is subsidized by government for poor people. When it is used by industry, the subsidy comes to wrong people. Next, Indonesia has a lot of number of natural gas, so we can exploite it for Indonesian people and reduce the used of petroleum in our country.

But, these are some problems when government try to implement it. At the first, goverment subsidizes people for stove and gas tube. At the other side, the government reduces the number of kerosene. It make some crowded, a lot of people don’t receive the stove and gas tube, and kerosene is hard to find. Finally many people must queue up to get 5 litres kerosine. Not only that, for people have received stove and gas tube, they are still hard to find new gas tube when they need it, because still few agent to sell small gas tube.

The quality of stove and gas tube becomes another problems. There is different in percentage about the number of stove and tube that have problem. Some said it is about 2% but the other said it is about 11%. It doesn’t matter about the percentage, but the most important thing is the used of LPG must guarantee safety for people.

I think, although there are saveral weakness in implementation of conversion of kerosene to LPG, the government must handle any problems more carefully. The government also have to guarantee the quality of stove and gas tube, so it is save for people when use it.

Finally, the subsidized of kerosene have to come to right people, so when the policy of subsidized came to wrong people, the conversion of kerosene to LPG is one of the way to reduce the wrong subsidy. So, although it is still a lot of aspects that have to do, the right policy is one of the way against poverty for Indonesian people. And the conversion of kerosene to LPG is one of the way.
